KD Ranch offers an action packed agenda that will keep you busy from dawn until dark. You're welcome to participate in as much or as little as you care to.
Here's a sample week, but it's subject to change.
Our meals are served at 8:30-breakfast, 12:30-lunch, and 6:30-dinner, and the bar opens with drinks and appetizers at 5:00.
Sunday
Check-in starts at 4:00 p.m. After dinner there is a slide show of the ranch history and local attractions. There will also be icebreakers so everyone can get to know their new ranch family.
Monday
Orientation is after breakfast and consists of a round pen demonstration that will introduce to you how we train our horses, some horse psychology, and how to saddle and ride. Then you will be matched with your horse for the week and take a ride in the arena to become acquainted. After lunch you'll hit the trails. The evening will be filled with swing dancing and line dancing.
Tuesday
Tuesday morning you can ride the fence lines with our wranglers to look for needed repairs. After a morning of work you can enjoy the cowboy sport of team penning. It is a timed game in an arena where three riders try to cut out three calves and get them in a small pen. If you're ready to rough it for a night, the overnight trip leaves just before dinner. Those who prefer the luxuries can relax for the evening at the bar and enjoy movies and games.
Wednesday
While the overnighters are returning, there is a trail ride for those who stayed at home. Then everyone can take a haywagon ride to Spiker's pond where lunch will be served. The afternoon can be spent swimming, fishing, rowing, playing volleyball, or just enjoying the view. The haywagon will take you back to the lodge in time for dinner and then another chance to pen those calves that got away before, during an evening of team penning.
Thursday
This morning everyone will be challenged by a scavenger hunt on horseback. After lunch is a trip to the Wild's - an exotic nature reserve. Thursday evening get ready to stomp your boots and clap your hands for the big ol' square dance.
Friday
In the morning you can choose a more advanced trail ride or a walking ride. After lunch you can participate in our "Dude Rodeo" (many fun games played in the arena). Friday night it's time to kick back and enjoy a country band.
Saturday
Before you think about leaving, you can help move our cattle to greener pastures during the cattle drive. After lunch we'll say good-bye, until the next visit!! Check-out is at 1:00 p.m.
Other Activities
Assisting with feeding any time
Individual horseback lessons
Horse painting
Roping lessons
Berry picking
Bucking barrel rides
* We'll be taking pictures of you all week long so you have proof to go home and show your city slicker friends and neighbors. You'll be able to view them throughout the week and purchase the best ones before you leave.
